Palmer OKs $227,600 for sewer line repair design
Select Board · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Palmer Town Council moves $227,600 in sewer surplus toward fixing a crumbling Three Rivers Junction sewer line, as a resident erupts over nearly $10 million already spent on the treatment plant. Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent Ken Lord and Tighe & Bond engineers detailed heavy corrosion in a 30-inch interceptor pipe and a failing three-barrel siphon, estimating the full repair near $3 million, with design and permitting alone costing $227,600. An unidentified resident warned sewer bills could rise "potentially $1,000 increase per household over five years" and said the town is already billing roughly $50 per unit below its own 2023 rate study.
The council also appointed Patrick Jessup to the Palmer Redevelopment Authority, approved a propane storage license for the expanding Palmer Health Care Center, gave first reading to a rewritten Chapter 145 stormwater ordinance, and approved a Main Street property conveyance with 2022 Main Street LLC.
